1. OVERVIEW

Teenagers aged 11 to 18 join a creative ensemble where theatre becomes a space for exploration, expression, and artistic collaboration. Through drama, improvisation, and collective creation, students develop their acting skills while exploring meaningful stories, contemporary issues, and the complexity of human relationships.

Classes combine acting techniques, improvisation, movement, voice, text analysis, character development, and devised theatre. As students gain experience, they progressively take on greater artistic responsibility, contributing not only as performers but also as creative collaborators throughout the production process.

Working in a mixed-age ensemble encourages younger students to learn from more experienced performers while giving older students opportunities to mentor, inspire, and lead. This collaborative environment strengthens artistic maturity, communication, leadership, adaptability, critical thinking, and a strong sense of responsibility towards the group and the creative process.

2. OBJECTIVES

Throughout the year, participants will develop advanced acting and improvisation skills while strengthening creativity, confidence, critical thinking, emotional intelligence, and stage presence. They will learn to analyze texts and characters, create original material, collaborate as an ensemble, and become increasingly autonomous artists capable of making meaningful artistic choices.

Drama and improvisation are both essential parts of the curriculum. Their complementary approaches help students develop versatility, adaptability, listening skills, spontaneity, and a deeper understanding of performance. Depending on the group's interests, strengths, and artistic ambitions, the year's focus may lean more towards theatre or improvisation while ensuring that students experience and benefit from both disciplines.

The season culminates in a full-length theatrical production of approximately 60 to 90 minutes, presented as part of the P.A.S. Festival. Students are involved throughout the creative process, progressively taking ownership of the artistic work according to their experience and abilities.

The group is also encouraged to develop an improvisation performance or match for the Winter Fest, offering students the opportunity to explore a different theatrical language and to meet the audience in a more spontaneous and interactive format.

3. DISCIPLINE SUMMARY

Theatre as an Exploration of the Self and the World

Practicing theatre means facing personal challenges: launching oneself on stage, managing stage fright, following instincts, and collaborating with others. Theatre encourages creativity, expression, teamwork, and understanding oneself and others.

Classes combine theoretical and practical work based on aesthetic currents and methods from masters worldwide. Emphasis is placed on body awareness, imagination, and collective creation.

"We want life in the theatre, and theatre in life." – Jules Renard

5. VALUES OF THEATRE

Theatre promotes self-discovery and critical thinking, exploring personal and social worlds. It allows participants to gain self-confidence, express themselves, and understand diverse perspectives. Theatre is both a playful and profound way to engage with life.

"Theatre is a point of view. Everything that exists in the world… everything must and can be reflected there, but under the magic wand of art." – Victor Hugo

Improvisation Theatre: Create and Perform Instantly on Stage

Improvisation, often called "improv," is a theatrical creation without a pre-written text or rehearsals. In improv, the actor is simultaneously playwright, director, set designer, and performer. Improvising means bringing creation and production together in real time.

ATH improvisation classes explore various forms, including short forms, long forms, improv duels, catch improv, improv cabaret, and micetro. These formats allow participants to playfully experiment, collaborate, and develop stage presence.

“Improvisation is not an exchange of information between players; it is communion.” – Viola Spolin
